Vintage Civic

This is the start to my next illustration. I thought about continuing the Rising Sun graphics into the background and foreground – but, seems it’ll only work towards the bottom half of the front tires. Like the previous illustration – I’ll finish this in Corel Painter.

Think this is close to complete. Color of his gloves are a bit off. If you read below – you’ll see I went with plan B. The acetone transfer to watercolor paper didn’t work. I printed an 11 x 17 of the B&W image below from a laser printer. Prolly why the acetone transfer wasn’t clear. I should have used a xerox copy – like all the instructions mention. Anyway, I continued with the transfer on watercolor paper – and used pencil to darken outlines. At this point, I was hoping to finish with watercolor – then pen & ink for outlines. Wasn’t thrilled with my watercolor results – so, I scanned the image twice and patched them together in Photoshop. The image is 11 x 19 – my scanner is 8.5 x 14. I used Corel Painter to paint – and Photoshop for color and level adjustments. Drop me a line with questions or comments.

I’m hoping to finish one painting/illustration per month. This is number two. It’s still in sketch phase – I used the brush tool in Illustrator. I was thinking about doing an acetone transfer to watercolor paper. It’s been awhile since using watercolors – so, results should be interesting, I hope. If things don’t work out with watercolor – plan B will entail scanning and Corel Painter…with Photoshop and Illustrator, if things get really desperate.
